Fahrenheit (°F) Conversions

To use this converter, please enter the temperature value in Fahrenheit (°F) to convert to Celsius (°C), Kelvin (K) and Rankine (°R).

Fahrenheit (°F) Conversions:

Celsius (°C):
T°C = (T°F - 32) × (5/9)
T°C = (32°F - 32 ) × (5/9)
T°C = 0°C

Kelvin (K):
TK = (T°F + 459.67) × (5/9)
TK = (32°F + 459.67) × (5/9)
TK = 273.15 K

Rankine (°R):
T°R = T°F + 459.67
T°R = 32°F + 459.67
T°R = 491.67°R

Fahrenheit (°F) Temperature

In United States (USA), "Fahrenheit" is commonly used for temperture measurement. Fahrenheit is the unit of measurement of the temperature and is represented by the SI symbol (°F "degrees Fahrenheit"). Celsius or centigrade is also a unit of measurement of the temperature and is represented by the SI symbol (°C "degrees Celsius"). Nowadays in most part of the world, "Celsius" is commonly used for the temperature measurement for different purposes e.g. scientific work, weather forecasts etc.

The melting point of ice or freezing point of water is about 32°F and the boiling point of water is about 212°F at a pressure of 1 atmosphere. But these values tend to vary depending upon the water composition (usually the amount of salt presence) and the air pressure. The salt forces the freezing point of the sea water to be lower and that's why the freezing point of the sea water is around 28.76°F. Similary as the atmospheric pressure decreases at higher altitudes, the boiling point of water also decreases. At the top of the Mount Everest, where the atmospheric pressure is very low, the water boils at about 154.4°F.

Fahrenheit to Celsius Conversion

The temperature T in Fahrenheit (°F) can be converted to temperature T in Celsius (°C) using the formula:

T°C = (T°F - 32) × 59

0°C = 32°F

100°C = 212°F

Example: Convert 80 degrees Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius

Fahrenheit to Kelvin Conversion

The temperature T in Fahrenheit (°F) can be converted to temperature T in Kelvin (K) using the formula:

TK = (T°F + 459.67) × 59

273.15 K = 32°F

373.15 K = 212°F

Example: Convert 80 degrees Fahrenheit to Kelvin

Fahrenheit to Rankine Conversion

The temperature T in Fahrenheit (°F) can be converted to temperature T in Rankine (°R) using the formula:

T°R = T°F + 459.67

491.67°R = 32°F

671.67°R = 212°F

Example: Convert 80 degrees Fahrenheit to degrees Rankine
