Kelvin (K) Temperature
Kelvin (K) is the unit of measurement of the temperature and is represented by the symbol K. The Kelvin scale is an absolute scale, which is defined such that 0 K is an absolute zero. Kelvin scale is the primary unit of temperature measurement for the engineering and physical sciences. 273.15 K =~ 0°C (melting point of ice or freezing point of water). In United States (USA), "Fahrenheit" is commonly used for temperture measurement. Fahrenheit is also unit of measurement of the temperature and is represented by the SI symbol (°F "degrees Fahrenheit"). Celsius or centigrade is also a unit of measurement of the temperature and is represented by the SI symbol (°C "degrees Celsius"). Nowadays in most part of the world, "Celsius" is commonly used for the temperature measurement for different purposes e.g. scientific work, weather forecasts etc.
Kelvin to Celsius Conversion
The temperature T in Kelvin (K) can be converted to temperature T in Celsius (°C) using the formula:
T°C = TK - 273.15
0°C = 273.15 K
100°C = 373.15 K
Example: Convert 300.15 Kelvin to degrees Celsius
- T°C = TK - 273.15
- T°C = 300.15 K - 273.15
- T°C = 27°C
Kelvin to Fahrenheit Conversion
The temperature T in Kelvin (K) can be converted to temperature T in Fahrenheit (°F) using the formula:
T°F = (TK × 95 ) - 459.67
32°F = 273.15 K
212°F = 373.15 K
Example: Convert 300.15 Kelvin to degrees Fahrenheit
- T°F = (TK × 95) - 459.67
- T°F = (300.15 K × 95) - 459.67
- T°F = 80.6°F
Kelvin to Rankine Conversion
The temperature T in Kelvin (K) can be converted to temperature T in Rankine (°R) using the formula:
T°R = TK × 95
491.67°R = 273.15 K
671.67°R = 373.15 K
Example: Convert 300.15 Kelvin to degrees Rankine
- T°R = TK × 95
- T°R = 300.15 K × 95
- T°R = 540.27°R
